We use an image segmentation model running on Cloudflare's edge network. It identifies the subject of your image and converts the background into transparent pixels.
Images with a clear subject work best: people, products, animals, or objects with a distinct edge. Complex scenes with multiple overlapping subjects may produce less precise results.
PNG is the only common web format that supports transparency. The removed background becomes transparent pixels, which JPG and WebP cannot represent losslessly.
